Beth
Williams’ Story
Beth Williams lost her valiant fight against breast cancer on
November 5th, 2006. During her ten year struggle, Beth took her
terrible personal circumstances and unselfishly turned it into
a mission to help countless others who suffered from cancer. By
choosing to go public with her story, she put a human face on
the disease and was able to bring needed awareness to breast cancer
research. She never wavered in her commitment to the cause and
worked tirelessly in fundraising, awareness campaigns, and even
lobbying on the state and federal levels for important legislation
needed to fight breast cancer and promote the research that may
finally lead to a cure.
As her own battle continued and her chances for survival weakened,
her resolve for her children to continue their normal sports activities
grew stronger. As an avid sports mom, she could be found on the
sidelines of local ball fields encouraging and cheering on her
four young children as they competed in their chosen team sports.
Even in the latter stages of her illness, she pulled every ounce
of strength from her body to attend as many games as possible
so she could support the children. One of her dying wishes was
that in lieu of flowers being delivered to her funeral, individuals
should instead make contributions to rebuild the football field
at Evergreen Elementary School where her children and the community’s
children played football, baseball and cheered. It was this simple
request that was the genesis of what is now The Beth Williams
Field of Dreams Foundation, Inc.
